Roger Lane-Smith was Chairman and Senior Partner of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary LLP until his retirement in April 2005,

Having qualified as a Solicitor in 1969 he set up his own practice in Manchester and London in 1977 and, following a series of mergers and amalgamations over the ensuing years, he became Senior Partner of DLA Piper and presided over the remarkable growth of this Law Firm to over 1,000 Partners, over 4,000 Lawyers with 57 offices spanning the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Asia and the United States of America. Roger continues to be associated with DLA Piper as Senior Consultant.

Although for much of his career at DLA Piper Roger Lane-Smith specialised in Corporate Law, he also practised extensively in the Private Client area, representing many substantial families, landed Estates and high net worth individuals throughout the UK. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, as well as the Law Society of Hong Kong.

The firm was established on 2 May 2006 to provide a dedicated and focused service in the areas of tax and estate planning, private and estate administration services, trusts and probate.
