He specialises in advising high net worth individuals and trusts on tax and succession planning issues, and has a particular interest in tax-efficient asset-holding structures.
In the early part of his career Paul trained as a chartered accountant at Ernst & Young LLP in Birmingham. He then spent nearly two years working for a law firm in Guernsey before returning to the UK and qualifying as a solicitor.
Paul has for many years been a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He currently sits on the board of examiners and has joint responsibility for setting and marking the question on taxation of individuals, trusts and estates in the ‘application and interaction of taxes’ paper.
Paul is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, for whom he provides training material and occasional lectures.
